
The operational cycle of an induced draft cooling tower relies on direct contact between warm process water and cooler atmospheric air, driving heat transfer primarily through evaporation. Heated water from industrial processes or HVAC chillers is pumped to the top of the tower and distributed evenly via spray headers or nozzles. Driven by the mechanical fan at the top, cool outside air enters the lower section of the tower through specialized louvers. As the water cascades downward through high-performance fill media, the rising air moves across it. This maximizes the surface area and contact time between air and water. A small fraction of the water evaporates, absorbing and carrying away heat into the air stream. The warm, moisture-laden air passes through drift eliminators (which trap water droplets to prevent loss) and is expelled at high velocity out of the top exhaust. The cooled water collects in the basin below, ready to be recirculated back into the system.
